Hello,
To translate .po files and .mo files we can use POEdit.
To install it using ubuntu use:
$ sudo apt-get install poedit
Open it in "Applications - Programming - POEdit"
Use "File - New catalog from POT file", select your .pot file and create a new translation for it.
Start translating!

Seria melhor tu colocar # apt-get e não $.
